The performance has in true sense warmed up for a super finale in the ongoing MAXTALENT Inter University Pride cup as the stage is all set for classic clash between former winners AUS vs LACC led by UAE star player Wasim Bari desperate to lift the silver ware of an pioneer and calendar year event, which is in its 5th Edition and organized under the aegis of Sharjah Cricket Council. MAXTALENT MD commented he could not have asked for a more better script for this tournament, which saw many new fasces and talent emerging out of the rule of only 1 Employee bonafide student per team allowed to play, this will definitely boost the talent bank of UAE cricket and also assist ECB to get more junior players in their run up preparedness for Under 19 world cup in 2014. London American City college qualify for the finals for the second time, had to put up a good fight, after resisting a spirited performance by Ajman University of Science and technology (AUST). Winning the toss LACC elected to bat and posted a tall target thanks to their In-form Batsman Zuhaib Ali opened the batting and played an unbelievable innings smashing 20 fours and 3 sixes to all parts of the ground. Zuhaib scored an unbeaten 151 of just 66 balls and carried his bat through. Zuhaib Ali consistent performance has been a real boon for his side as he has scored 338 runs at an incredible average of 169 runs, which is the best ever in the Pride Cup. He undeniably won the Maxway Player of the Match back to back for 3 consequtive match. Wasim Bari(23) and Omar Ahmed(21) too made some valuable contribution to reach a target of 214 in 20 over for the loss of 4 wickets, Ajman fielding was left wanting and bowler did not contribute much. Ajman University came in to bat with a mental strength which can be seen only at the highest level of cricket. AUST in form batsman Farooq Mohammed and Rehman Arkam opened the batting and were threatening to take the game to London American City College. Rehman Arkam departed after scoring a quick-fire 32 off 21 balls. Inspirational captain Mahmood Mir walked in to bat who was not in the best of health. He played his part well, but his body finally gave in to the intensity of the game and had to retire at 23 off 20 balls which included 1 four and 1 six. But Ajman University had still not given up as Farooq Mohammed went on to score 80 off 56 balls. He showed some real class earning him comparisons to the Hashim Amla of South Africa from spectators and opponents alike. Ajman University finished with 175-4 on the board but that as not enough as they fell short of 39 runs to the ultimate target. London American City College will now fight it out with American University in the finals to with the most sort after Maxtalent Pride Cup 2011 trophy. Brief Scores: London American City College defeated Ajman University of Science and Technology London American City College: Zuhaib Ali (151*), wasim Bari ( 23) Ajman University of Science of technology : Farooq Mohammed(80), Rehman Arkam(32), Nawaz Mohammed(2-31) Click Here for scoresheet American University of Sharjah make to the Final The 5th edition of Maxtalent Pride Cup 201 conducted under the aegis of Sharjah Cricket Council has progressed on to the semi-final stage. American University Sharjah edge out Manipal University in a very enthralling finish to top the hype surrounding the first semi-final game. Manipal University winning the toss elected to chase. American University Sharjah, looking to continue their good run in this tournament, got a steady start from Shahzada Haris who scored 47 off 28 balls and was supported well by Arkam Aftab (36 off 23 balls). Manipal University needed a wicket to get back into the game and Anas Khan did so by picking up 2 wickets in the same over to dismiss both set batsmen. Captain Fahad Tariq and Ankur Gopal were the new pair in and they put on a partnership of 54 runs and also shored up AUS inning. Fahad Tariq specifically played some beautiful strokes to reach 38 off 23 balls and Ankur Gopal 21 off 15 balls. Soon it was dj vu all over again as Anas Khan picked up the 2 prized wickets in the same over. This time Fahad and Ankur being the victims of Anas Khans accurate bowling. Anas finished with a 5 for 42 runs match haul as American University Sharjah innings came winded up with 188-6 in their stipulated 20 Overs. Chasing a total of 189 and at the rate of plus 9 runs per over was a tall demand and keeping in mind the former Pride Cup winner do pose a good bowling line up, was never going to be easy. But Manipal opener and ECB player earning back to back Player of the match award Saurabh Gir molding and emulating Rahul Dravid characteristic as a batsman, had clear game plan in front of him, displaying nerves of steel as he played a magnificent knock, earning him recognition and applause not only from his team-mates but also from his opponents and gathered crowd, his brilliant innings lasting nearly 19.4 overs allowing him to score 85 off 55 balls. Saurabh was well supported by Mehul Jaiswal as he posted 38 over in just 23 balls. But then the pressure got on to the batsman 2 quick wicket fell. But soon there was another twist to this game as Gurpreet Singh walked in to bat Gurpreet Singh used the long handle to good effect and scored 29 off 17 balls which included 2 sixes and a some breath taking running between the wicket by 3 down batsman. The body language of American University Sharjah was suffering due to Gurpreets cameo kind of innings till Pacer Shahrukh Khan dismissed Gurpreet who also at the fag end dismissed Saurabh Gir in the final over to end all hopes of a brave entertaining run chase. Manipal University fell short of 17 runs, but it was a game played truly at a very high level in all departments. The event is held under the auspicious of the Sharjah Cricket Council.AUST winning the toss elected to field first. Murdoch missing a few key players went into bat without much panache. Things started going bad for Murdoch University right from the beginning. Losing 5 wickets for just 35 runs by the 7th over, Kamran Khan with 18 was the only one to give some respectability to the struggling team total of 85 all out. The chief in architect of Murdochs downfall was Rehman Akram (3 for 31), Mohammed Farooq (2 for 12) and Faraz Jafferi (2 for 17). Ajman University, chasing an easy 86, the lowest this season, too got an early scare in the third over as they lost 2 wickets with just 10 runs on the board. But with inform batsman Rehman Akram (38 n.o.) taking the crease he partnered with the other prolfic scorer Mohammed Farooq (29 n.o.) posted the required runs without any further hiccup. They put up an partnership of 76 runs for the second wicket. Brief scores:AUST bt Murdoch University by seven wickets: Murdoch University 85 all out (Kamran Khan 18, Rehman 3-31, Farooq 2-8, Faraz Jafferi 2-17) Ajman University 86 for 3 (Rehman Akram 38 n.o., Farooq 29 n.o.) Yasir, Sohale fox Canadian University Herriot Watt beat Canadian University Dubai by eight wickets in Pool B of the 5th edition of Maxtalent Pride Cup organised under the aegis of the Sharjah Cricket Council.Canadian University winning the toss elected to bat.
