Canadian Business Council

The Canadian Business Council endeavours to foster communication and networking between Canadian and other business people in the region, and to build awareness amongst the regions' business community of the contribution that Canadians and Canadian goods, services and technologies have made in the development of the UAE. The Council provides an excellent forum for assisting its members to increase their visibility and to develop more effective business relationships within the community. The Council reaches these goals by organizing informative monthly events in Dubai, maintaining a website, and by the publication and distribution within Dubai, the U.A.E. and elsewhere, of an annual Membership Directory. Membership is open to individuals and companies who are Canadian, or do business with Canada, or who have demonstrated an affinity towards Canada. The Canadian Business Council of Dubai and the Northern Emirates (CBC) was established on March 31, 1993 as a non-profit organization. The objectives of the CBC are: As Chairman of the Canadian Business Council of Dubai and the Northern Emirates (CBC), there is no doubt that we will be working very hard to serve the best interests of our new and returning Members. I am also looking forward to provide the membership with high profile events and programs this coming year. We would also like thank Canadian Consul General Kris Panday and Ambassador HE Ken Lewis for their continued support of the CBC. 2010-2011 proved to be a very successful year of events and programs with over 20 events being offered including the Arab Health event with Ontario Minister Sandra Pupatello, Pre-launch networking event for the BlackBerry Playbook, Annual Big 5 Dinner, and Intercouncil networking events with several business groups and other Councils. Apart from events, the CBC also achieved great success in Corporate Social Responsibility where the CBC donated of more than AED 60,000 to the Special Family Support Group, which supports education for special needs. I truly believe that the UAE and the Middle East remains an amazing growing environment with growth potential where Canadian corporations and businesses will thrive. Sincerely, David Macadam Chairman Criteria for CBC Membership The CBC is open to levels of Membership: Corporate Membership and Individual Membership. Corporate full membership is open to Canadian companies established in the U.A.E., and which either have Canadian shareholding or ultimate Canadian ownership and/or management. (UPDATED September 2011: Valid for3 members) Individual full membership is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada who are senior members and/or professionals of either Canadian or non-Canadian entities established in the U.A.E. If you do not qualify for the above Full Membership levels, the CBC also has an Associate Membership category. Associate membership are individuals or companies who carry on, as a major business, an agency, distributorship, franchise or other representation for a Canadian business, or a joint venture or management contract with a Canadian business, or a business which is managed or operated substantially by Canadian professionals, or which otherwise has a special nexus with the Canadian business community. In all such cases, however, the application must be accompanied by a written request from the concerned individual or company requesting the Executive Committee to consider its application for Associate Membership. If requested by the Executive Committee, the applicant shall provide an outline of its overall business operations paying particular regard to the proportion of its activities that are related to the promotion/sale of goods or services originating in Canada.
